LOCAL HISTORY
A neighborhood shaped by Ann Arbor’s growth
Burns Park takes its name from the 15-acre park at the heart of the neighborhood. The park occupies land that was once home to the Washtenaw County Agricultural and Horticultural Society fairgrounds, connecting the area to an earlier chapter of Ann Arbor’s development.
As Ann Arbor expanded during the early 20th century, the surrounding area developed into the residential neighborhood recognizable today. Its streets reflect that evolution, with homes from different periods and architectural traditions contributing to the neighborhood’s distinctive character.
Today, the combination of established homes, mature streetscapes, Burns Park and proximity to the University of Michigan continues to define the neighborhood’s physical character.
