Fall is officially settling into Southeast Michigan, and this week brings a little bit of everything — downtown food and tech events, the Ann Arbor Marathon, fall festivals, local markets and plenty of reasons to get outside. Here are a few events worth putting on your calendar around Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County this week.

Tuesday: Eat Your Way Through Ypsilanti at YpsiTasty

Downtown Ypsilanti kicks off the week with YpsiTasty Grub Crawl & Shop Local on Tuesday, September 29 from 4–8 p.m. Participants can make their way around downtown, sampling food from local restaurants while exploring Ypsi's independent shops and businesses. It's also a good introduction to what makes downtown Ypsilanti distinctive if you haven't spent much time there.

Friday: Tech Trek Takes Over Liberty Street

One of Ann Arbor's more uniquely local events happens Friday afternoon when Tech Trek turns part of downtown into an innovation street fair. More than 60 companies are expected along Liberty Street with demonstrations, interactive exhibits, games and local food vendors. The event runs from 1–5 p.m. and is free. It's part of the larger a2Tech360 festival.

Saturday: Fall Fun in Chelsea

MOOnster Mash at Barn Sanctuary takes place Saturday from noon–4 p.m. in Chelsea. The Halloween-themed afternoon includes trick-or-treating, a costume contest, face painting and opportunities to meet sanctuary animals, along with plant-based food and desserts.

Saturday: See How Ann Arbor Works Behind the Scenes

The City of Ann Arbor Public Works Open House runs Saturday from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Families can see the vehicles and equipment used to maintain the city, learn about public works operations and climb aboard some of the big trucks. The event is free.

Saturday & Sunday: Explore Local Remodeling Projects

The Remodelers Home Tour gives visitors a chance to explore 13 remodeling projects across Ann Arbor and Dexter on Saturday and Sunday. For anyone thinking about renovating — or simply looking for ideas — it's an especially relevant weekend stop.

Sunday: Ann Arbor Marathon

Sunday morning belongs to runners. The Trinity Health Probility Ann Arbor Marathon returns October 4 with a full marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 10K and 5K. Even if you're not running, expect plenty of activity around town and traffic changes along the course.

Sheila's Local Pick

The Remodelers Home Tour. The real-estate connection makes it a natural fit for this first edition, but this recommendation should be confirmed by Sheila before publication.

One of the best parts of living and working in the Ann Arbor area is how much there is to discover beyond the houses themselves. Each week, we'll share a few of the events, places and local experiences that make Ann Arbor and the surrounding communities such a great place to call home.
